Bird and Pulling retained by Nissan

Nissan Formula E will continue with Sam Bird as its reserve and development driver and Abbi Pulling as its rookie and simulator driver to bolster its new-look race line-up of Oliver Rowland and Zane Maloney in the first GEN4 season.

The two British drivers will be keys parts of Nissan’s GEN4 push as it battles back from initial reliability issues in its GEN4 development programme. They have largely been tackled now and the Japanese manufacturer completed a successful test with Andretti’s Jake Dennis and Rowland at a Guadix test earlier this month.

Bird, who has completed several days of running in the GEN4 car, joined Nissan in November 2025 as reserve and development driver, while Pulling began her rookie and simulator driver role in June 2025. She has appeared on three occasions at rookie test day and rookie free practice sessions for the Paris based team.

Bird and Pulling will continue working alongside Rowland and Maloney ahead of Pre-Season Testing at Circuito del Jarama, Spain on 16-20 November.

“As we enter the GEN4 era, having drivers who know our simulator, our powertrain and the way we work will be important in helping us prepare effectively for this new generation,” said managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, Tommaso Volpe.

“Sam brings a wealth of Formula E experience and has been a great team player since joining us last year. He’s proactive and always looking for ways to help the team improve. Abbi has become increasingly comfortable in the Formula E environment and is already adding real value.

“She’ll have the opportunity to take part in test days and continue supporting us both before and during race weekends. Together with Oliver and Zane, we believe we have a strong driver roster to help us make a positive start to the GEN4 era,” added Volpe.

Pulling, who is currently eighth in the GB Championship with Rodin Motorsport, completes her season this weekend at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
