Ticktum confirmed at Fortescue Zero

Dan Ticktum has signed to race for Fortescue Zero Racing to form an all-British line-up with Taylor Barnard for the teams’ debut Formula E season.

Formula E Notebook broke news of Ticktum’s deal with the Australian company last week and he is expected to get his initial running with the Jaguar affiliated company shortly ahead of the Jarama test in mid-November.

Speaking about his new deal, the two time E-Prix winer with CUPRA Kiro said that what he loved about the team was “that they want to do things differently.

“To get to race and represent Fortescue Zero Racing in its first season is a huge honour. Getting to be part of building a team from scratch is exciting, especially one that’s got a long history of competing and winning,” he added.

“It’s not lost on me the support I’ve received to get here and the faith that has been put in me. I am extremely grateful and cannot wait to repay that belief by working with Jim Wright and the whole team to make the 2026/27 season a huge success.”

Fortescue Zero Racing Team Principal Jim Wright added that Ticktum was “ a fierce competitor. He’s fast, fearless, a proven race winner in Formula E and not afraid to push boundaries. At Fortescue, challenging the way things have always been done is part of our DNA.”

“We want that hunger in our garage, matched with the discipline and teamwork needed to deliver results. Dan brings experience, strength and a winning personality to the team.”

“Dan has a reputation for being incredibly quick and racing hard. As a new team we have a lot to prove and together we can all show what Fortescue Zero Racing can do.”

Fortescue Zero is set to reveal the look of its Jaguars in early November prior to heading for Madrid and the three day test at Circuito del Jarama.

How Ticktum deal formed

It was a summer of initial uncertainty but then an abundance of possibilities for Formula E’s most divisive character, Dan Ticktum.

He was told in June that after a coruscating Monaco E-Prix, in which he took two pole positions but failed to score any points in the races, that his behaviour after the first race in which he missed his media commitments and failed to attend the post-race debrief, were unwelcome.

It also signalled a second official warning, the first coming after he launched an explosive rant at stewards after the Mexico City E-Prix in January.

A subsequent suspended fine at the Shanghai E-Prix in July saw him sanctioned by stewards after comments he made to FEN about the Race Director. When Ticktum then launched another missive at team principal, Russell O’Hagan, on the slowing down lap of August’s London E-Prix, his future at CUPRA Kiro was all but doomed., although a period in which he could have sought a retrieval of the relationship was explored as recently as the end of September.

A test with Lola at Guadix came and went in late August, before he and his manager father, David, entered in to discussions with both Porsche (for its second customer team, now known as Fusion – with who Ticktum drove the karting off-shoot earlier in his career) and Fortescue Zero.

It was the latter which appeared more attractive to Ticktum and he agreed a deal earlier this month to partner Barnard, with the team believed to have convinced Ticktum that it is interested in a longterm future with one of motorsport’s most unpredictable drivers.
