Why CUPRA Kiro is staying with Porsche

The CUPRA Kiro team will continue to be a customer of Porsche in to the Gen4 era after confirming a deal between the two today.

The British based/American owned team first ran the Posrche 99X Electric Gen3 car in the 2024/25 season after being acquired by the Forrest Road private equity group in the autumn of 2024. Since that time the team has seen a vast improvement in its results with a win at Jakarta in June 2025 and two podiums via Dan Ticktum at Tokyo and a second and a third for Pepe Marti this season in Monaco and Sanya respectively.

But it has also been a tumultuous period for the team as an array of off track incidents, penalties and investigations has often overshadowed the teams on-track performances.

The deal to continue with Porsche was concluded some time ago and will fit in to Porsche’s Gen4 structure of just one customer team, as the German marque confirmed last November that it will run an additional factory team next season. Details of that team, which is planned to have Ayhancan Guven in one of its seats, are yet to be made public.

Speaking about the deal, Russell O’Hagan, Team Principal of  Kiro Race Co, said that “after the success we have already achieved since working together, we are delighted to confirm the extension of our partnership with Porsche Motorsport for GEN4.

“Given it’s been widely anticipated, we appreciate it comes as little surprise, yet the continuation of our collaboration is a hugely important moment for us as a team and business. Over the GEN3 era, Porsche has established itself as the benchmark for manufacturers in Formula E, and the milestones we have achieved together already in less than two seasons illustrates the strength of our collaboration,” added O’Hagan.

“With GEN4 representing such a major technical evolution for Formula E, continuing with a trusted partner that combines best in class innovation, performance, and championship-winning expertise gives us the perfect foundation for the future.  We’re very excited to improve upon what we have started together and can’t wait to see what further successes our relationship will hold.”

With Andretti set to work with Nissan, Envision already confirmed as continuing with Jaguar, and Stellantis supplying its two brands, CUPRA Kiro’s choice of staying with Porsche power was a no-brainer for the team. Porsche has been testing its Gen4 car since November with performance testing taking place now through to September.

The team ran David Beckmann last season upon the suggestion of Porsche, with who Beckmann has a deal. That though wasn’t the case this season with Kiro free to run their own choice of driver. That looked as though it would be Jake Hughes for a one time, until Pepe Marti acquired the seat ion the eve of the pre-season test at Valencia last October.

CUPRA Kiro is set to continue running Marti next season. But Ticktum’s seat is much more open with the British driver unlikely to be retained by the team, which is understood to exploring several options.
