Q: 今回のテストはどんな内容でしたか？
今日、一日ルーキーテスト走らせて頂いて、まずは本当にこの素晴らしい機会をくださったJaguar TCS Racingにとても感謝しています。私自身フォーミュラEを乗るのは2回目ですけど、フォーミュラEっていうのクルマはやっぱり今まで自分が経験しているクルマと全く違うクルマで、もちろんシムレーターもやらせてもらいましたけど実際に走ると、今までと違う難しさがあったりとか、自分自身の走り方を変えないといけないところもたくさんあって、そういった部分が前回よりもだいぶ慣れてきたかなというふうに今回感じましたし、落ち着いてテストメニューをこなすこともできたかなと思います。午前中は路面温度が低くてタイヤを温めたりすることが苦労しましたけど、データを取れたっというのもはポジティブかなと思います。午後セッションに関しては色々なセットをを試すことができて、よくなったり悪くなったりしたんですけど、そのデータを取れたというのもすごくよかったなと思います。本当に今回のテストはJaguarにとって凄く重要なテストだと理解していますし、チャンピオンシップ争い上で凄く大事なメニューもあるので、それをしっかりこなすことができたというのは自身がやるべくことができたなと思います。ただ、残念なのは午前セッションも午後セッションもニュータイヤでまとめることが出来なかったけど、午前にトラフィックに引っかかってしまったので、午後は自分のミスでまとめることができなくて、凄く残念ですけど、ただ最初の方にニュータイヤを履いたんですけど、一番最後に私自身のタイムを更新することができたので凄くポジティブかな思います。全体を見ると凄くいいテストができたと思うので、本当にJaguar TCS Racingに感謝しています。
Q. Talk to me about your programme today
“Firstly, I am really grateful to Jaguar TCS Racing for giving me this brilliant chance to take part in the rookie test. For me personally it was my second time driving a Formula E car, and although I was able to use the simulator, it is such a different car from everything else I’ve experienced, and it’s a much more difficult car, so there are still a lot of things I have to change about my driving. Even so, it felt more familiar compared to the previous time, and I was able to calmly work through the test programme. In the morning, the track temperature was low and I was struggling with getting the tyres up to temperature, but I think I still obtained good data. In the afternoon, I tried out various different setups and even though there were both good and bad points, I’m glad we obtained good data from those. I knew how important this test is for Jaguar, especially considering they are fighting for the championship, so for me I felt like I did everything I was supposed to to be able to get through the test programme. It’s a shame that in both the morning and the afternoon I wasn’t able to maximise my new tyre runs. In the morning I was caught up in traffic, and in the afternoon I wasn’t able to put together a good lap due to my own mistakes, which was very unfortunate. But I used new tyres at the start of the session, and at the very end I was able to improve my lap time, which I think was positive. I think overall it was a very good test, so I am really thankful to Jaguar TCS Racing.”
Q. 前回のバレンシアテストを比べるとどうでしたか？
私自身はフォーミュラEのクルマに対して理解が深まっているし、今回もシミュレーターをやらせてもらったし、技術の高いシミュレーターなのでそこでも学ぶことができましたし、ただサーキットは違うのでそこは今回サーキットを慣れる時間が必要でしたけど、前回と比べるとフォーミュラEを慣れる時間が短くなったかなと思います。ただ、まだまだ、今まで乗ったクルマと比べると全然違うクルマなので、やっぱりレギュラードライバーたちを比べるともっともっと自分自身もこのフォーミュラEのクルマを最大限パフォーマンスを引き出すようになれないといけないなと思いますし、そこは楽しいところの一つだと思います。
Q. How was it compared to Valencia?
“I think I was able to deepen my understanding of the Formula E car, and getting another chance to run on such a high-tech simulator was also a great learning experience. This time driving on a different circuit meant I needed a bit of time to learn the circuit, but compared to last time, I felt the time to get used to the car itself was shorter. That being said, it’s still very different to the cars I am used to, and if I compare myself to the regular drivers, I know I still have much further to go to be able to bring out the maximum performance of the Formula E car, but I think being able to compare myself to them is one of the fun parts.”
Q. サーキットはどんな印象でしたか？
すごく難しいサーキットだと思います。カンバーもありますし、高低差もありますし、ブラインドコーナーもあるので、それは凄く難しいと思います。シミュレーターもやったんですけど、やっぱり実際に走るみないと分からないことがたくさんあるし、そういう言った部分ではMitchとAntonioに教えてくれたし、たすかりになりました。全てのコーナーがあるのでドライバーにとってはすごくいい練習になるサーキットという風に感じました。
Q. What did you think of the track?
“I think it’s a very difficult circuit. There is a lot of camber, high and low-speed corners and some blind corners, which is a big challenge. I drove the track on the simulator, but there’s still a lot of things that you can only understand by driving in real life. On these points, Mitch and Antonio taught me a lot of things and that was a big help. It’s a track with all types of corners so I think it’s a good circuit to practice on as a driver.”
Q. これからもJaguarとの計画がありますか?
まだ分からないですけど、次はもしチャンスがあるとしたら凄く嬉しいですし、いつでもこのチームに戻って来られるように自分自身も頑張りたいなと思います。先ずはスーパーフォーミュラのレースがあるからそっちの方も一生懸命頑張て、またここに戻って来れるとしたら凄く嬉しいなと思います。
Q. Any future plans with Jaguar?
“I don’t know yet, but if I were to be given another chance I’d be really happy, and I want to do my best to get another chance. Firstly, I have Super Formula coming up, so I am putting my full focus into that for now, but if I could come back here I would be really happy.”
