Formula E is set to wow with the Gen4 development car at the 27th Goodwood Festival of Speed, one of the world’s biggest racing showcase events next weekend.
Dan Ticktum will drive the car, which has been developed by James Rossiter across the last 18 months, and Formula E Notebook can reveal that the car will run on slick tyres for the first ever time.
That is an indication that Ticktum could go for an attempt on the hillclimb course record, set by Max Chilton with the all-electric McMurty Speirling in 2021. The Gen4 car on slick tyres indicates that there is an intention to see if it can get close to the extraordinary time of 39.08seconds by Chilton over the famed 1.16 mile run, which shattered the 41.6s set by Nick Heidfeld in a McLaren MP4/13 F1 car back in 1999.
Formula E will run the new Gen4 car publicly for the first time over the weekend of 9-12 July, lining up CUPRA Kiro’s Ticktum to outline the cars much heralded pace.
Currently being developed by manufacturers in private testing, the Gen4 is capable of 210mph and can achieve 0-100kph in 1.8s with 600kW power and all-wheel drive. The Formula E Gen4 car will run in the Batch 3 show run category of the entry list at this year’s festival.

The Gen4 car though is not yet fully developed, although with slick tyres could feasibly get close to Chilton’s astounding time. But Formula E are believed to not be focusing on targeting the record, rather taking each run as it comes and seeing what the car is capable of as it demonstrates its torque and acceleration over the hill.
Talking of his role in displaying the Gen4, Ticktum said that Goodwood was “the perfect place to show the fastest single-seater Formula E has ever built.
“The GEN4 is 50% more powerful in race mode than the current cars, handles like an absolute weapon with that permanent all-wheel drive, and it’s ready to fly up the hill. It’s going to be wild.”
Formula E CEO, Jeff Dodds, described the Gen4’s outing at Goodwood as “the perfect stage to give the public its first up close look at the GEN4 car in action.”
This isn’t just an incremental step forward, the GEN4 represents a massive performance leap in Formula E history.”
