This month’s inaugural Madrid EPrix will feature a reduction of the attack mode time allocation in a move that has surprised teams.
Formula E Notebook can reveal that as usual there will be two hits of the extra 50kW of power during the race, but that the total time available will be six as opposed to eight minutes which has been usual for several seasons.
This total time will be able to be taken in denominations of either 3 + 3 minutes, 2 + 4 or 4 + 2 minutes at the race on Saturday, March 21.
The move comes after the first Pit Boost and six-minute attack mode combination was used at the Jeddah EPrix last month. The thinking behind this latest tweak of the regulation options for Formula E is believed to have been put in place due to the longer length of circuit being used at Circuito Jarama.
As first reported by FEN last week the circuit is set to feature a temporary chicane at the former Spanish Grand Prix venue and at almost 2.4-miles in length it will become easily the longest track on the 2025-26 calendar.
The race will take place over 21 laps only and will use the usual 38.5kWh of useable energy allowance with a regeneration co-efficient of 0.93kWh.
Speaking to FEN about the challenge of the Jarama track, which will host the 2026 CUPRA Ravel Madrid EPrix, the only Spanish driver on the grid, Pepe Marti, said that his home race would be “an enjoyable weekend and hopefully I can reward the Spanish fans with some points.

Despite assumptions because of his nationality, Marti has very little experience at Jarama having just “done a test in F4 about five years back.”
“The other guys in FE are fresher than I am in terms of Jarama knowledge, so it’s not something that I think we should be thinking about as an extra work. We should keep going on the same trajectory, the team have extra knowledge from testing last season, so we can just hopefully build on that knowledge and then do a good job on the weekend,” added Marti.
“I think Jarama was I one of the first experiences for the team with a Porsche powertrain (in November 2024), so naturally I think the team have learned a lot from it over this last year and a bit, and currently now we have a lot of good ideas and we’re definitely performing well with it.
“I think it’ll be very different to what we had in the test, but I think looking at the season average so far it pays off us, the team have done a good job setting the car up for us and I don’t think Jarama will be any different.”
