Q. Summarise the day, Juju
私にとって初めてのFEだったので、最初は車を慣れるからスタートしましたが、もちろん今まで乗ったクルマと全然違いますし、走り方もFEに合わせて走らないといけなくて、そういう意味で難しさがもちろんありましたが、このJaguar TCS Racingで走れて、皆がすごくサポートをしてくれました。午前はクルマをしっかり慣れるところからスタートして、午後はしっかりテストのメニューをこなしたり、あとは少しタイムを出しに行ったりというメニューをできました。もちろん今回はタイムを出すことは目標じゃなくて、チームから出されたメニューをしっかりこなすことでした。 今回のValenciaテストというのはチームにとって非常に重要なものなので、シーズン１２の前にしっかり色々なメニューを計画したので、そのメニューをしっかりこなして良かったと思います。
最後のアッタクに関しては、セクター１を更新しましたがそのあとはミスをしちゃって、タイム的に全部繋げたらいいタイムは行けたかなと思いますが、今回はテストはタイムを出すことが目標じゃないので、しっかりメニューをこなしてすごく良かったです。
一番良かったのはやはりこのJaguar TCS Racingで走れて、メカニックもそうだし、エンジニアもそうだし、皆の技術の認識はすごく高くて、一緒にテストを見てるだけでもすごく勉強になったし、実際に走ってみて、やはりエンジニアからの情報だったり、コミュニケーションの取り中で勉強になることがたくさんあったので、非常にいい経験になりました。
“It was my first time driving a Formula E car, so to begin with it was just about getting used to the car. Of course, it’s totally different to anything I have driven before, and you have to adjust your driving style accordingly, and that was a bit difficult, but everyone from Jaguar TCS Racing supported me brilliantly. In the morning I was just trying to get used to the car, but in the afternoon I was focused on completing the test plan, and I was able to try for a fast lap time towards the end. Of course, the objective was to help the team get through their test plan as this Valencia test is extremely important to the team for preparing for Season 12.
“At the end, I set a new personal best in sector one, but after that I made some mistakes, but I think if I had put the whole lap together I could have done a better time. But that wasn’t the goal for this test, and I’m glad I was able to complete the test plan.
“I think the best thing about doing this test with Jaguar TCS Racing was that the technical understanding of all the mechanics and engineers was so high, and even just by watching the test I was able to learn a lot. When it was my turn to drive, the information from the engineers and the way the team communicates was a really good learning experience.”
Q. How did you find the brakes?
ここに来る前にイギリスのファクトリーでシミュレーターをやったので、そこでFEのブレーキを少し理解しましたが、やはり実際に走ってみてい今までのクルマと全然違うので、そういう意味で慣れるまで時間少しかかりました。ABSが付いてるので、その乗り方をしっかりできたらすごくブレーキが安定しているので、そういったところをしっかり使いこなせるならタイムにすごく繋ぐクルマなので、私にとっては新しい経験になって、すごくいい経験だと思います。
“Before coming here I was able to drive on the simulator at the team’s factory in the UK, so I was able to understand the brakes a little bit, but it’s still so different to anything I experienced before that it took me a bit of time to get used to. The car has ABS as well, which makes the car very stable under braking if you can adjust your driving style to it. I think that’s something that makes a big difference to the lap time if you can do it, so that was a really good thing for me to experience too.”
Q. Were there any things that surprised you?
シミュレーターに乗った時はこのクルマはトラクションがすごくいいので、特に３５０ｋWを使うとfour-wheel driveになるので、今まで乗ったクルマを比べないぐらいトラクションすごくよかったので、それは驚きました。あとはスタート練習を何回かテスト中にやりましたが、スタートがすごく速くて、それもびっくりしましたね。SFでこのスタートをできたら全員を抜けるじゃないかなというぐらい速かったです。電気自動車の凄さをそこで感じました。加速もすごく速いので、最高速度でSFより遅いが、加速すごく速いので、そういう意味でそれを活かす乗り方っていうのは工夫しながらテストを出来たので、それもすごくいい経験でした。
“When I drove in the simulator, I knew the traction of the car was amazing, and especially when you use 350kW and the car becomes four-wheel drive, it has traction like nothing else I’ve driven before. That was a surprise, and also I did practice starts several times during the test, and the acceleration is really fast, so that was also a surprise. I think the acceleration is so quick that you could overtake the entire Super Formula grid! It made me realise how amazing electric cars are. The top speed of the car is slower than Super Formula, but the acceleration is faster, so I was trying to adjust my driving on the fly to be able to take full advantage of that, which was another good experience.”
Q. Did you feel you were able to get the most out of the car?
今回のJaguar TCS Racing、強いチームで走れせてもらったので、クルマ自体はすごくいい状態で走れせてもらったじゃないかなと思いましたし、実際に乗ってみてテストを通してすごく安定して走れたので、それに対してもレベルの高いチームだなと感じました。あとはテストをやってる中でリクエストをいくつかしましたが、それに対してもしかっりとアジャストしてくれて、その次走るとやはりよくなったということが多かったです。クルマはもちろんそうですし、チームの全体のレベルの高さも感じました。
“Driving for Jaguar TCS Racing, I knew I would be driving for a really strong team, so I knew I would be driving a car that’s in really good condition, and throughout the test I was able to drive consistently and I felt how high the level of the team. I also made several requests to the team during the test, and they were able to adjust everything well and the next time I drove the car felt better. So not just the car, but I felt the high level of the whole team.”
Q. How did you find communicating with the team?
シミュレーターもそうでし、ここで無線でと、そして降りてからミーティングをやったりという中で、まずは驚いたのはエンジニアの多さでした。ＳＦでは一台エンジニアが3人いますが、ここでは数え切れないぐらいエンジニアがいて、その1人1人に役割があって、タイヤのエンジニアがいたり、そういう風に役割を分かれていて、すごくレベルが高いと思いました。質問をするとやはり色々なエンジニアがそのデータを解析して、フィードバックをくれるのでドライバーにとってすごくやりやすかったですし、走ってる最中も本当に細かい情報はエンジニアからくれるので、自分はしっかり集中して走ることが出来ました。そういう意味では初めてのFEに集中できたので、このチームで走れてよかったなと感じました。
“In the simulator, and here on the radio and in meetings after getting out of the car, the thing that surprised me most was the number of engineers that are here. In Super Formula we have three cars to an engineer, but here there are so many engineers I can’t count! Each person has their role, there was even a dedicated tyre engineer, so all the work is divided up in this way. Also, whenever I had a question, there were several engineers going through the data and able to give me feedback, and even when driving, the engineers were able to give me very detailed information, which meant I could really focus on my driving. It made me feel really glad I was able to get my first Formula E experience with this team.”
Q. Summary of this Super Formula season
今年は私にとっては2年目のSFなんですが、チームは今年立ち上げたばかりのチームなので、そういう意味で最初はチームも自分自身も少しずつ成長していく年になるだろうなとシーズン始まる前に予想しました。チームが立ち上げたのはシーズン始まる2ヶ月前だったので、急遽集まってくれたメンバーなんですが、皆さんのモチベーションが高くて、一所懸命クルマを作り上げてくれてというの中で走れているので、あと残り3レースですが、私たちの目標は今年Q2に行くこと、ポイントを取ることなんですが、少しずつ目標が近づいているというのを感じます。自分たちの力をしっかり出し切ることが出来たらその目標を達成できると思っているので、次の鈴鹿の大会では自分の力を出し切って結果に繋がるようなレースにしたいなと思います。
“It’s my second year in Super Formula, but the team was only founded this year, so I thought it would be a year of learning for both me and the team before the season started. The team only started two months before the season began, so all the team members had to be recruited in a hurry, but everyone’s motivation is high and they have given their all to give me the best possible car. There are three races to go at Suzuka, and our goal for the year was to get through to Q2 and score points, and it feels like those goals are getting steadily closer. I think if we deliver our best performance as a team we can achieve those goals, so I want to give our best at Suzuka and convert all our efforts into a good result.”
